Tomato Sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Tbs. Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion, chopped small
  • 4 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 28 oz. can Tomato Sauce
  • 20 oz. can Diced Tomatos
  • 3 tsp. Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Sweet Marsala Wine
  • ½ tsp. Salt
  • ¼ tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Oregano
  • 1 tsp. Basil
  • 1 tsp. Thyme
  • ¼ tsp. Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
  • Browned ground beef, sausage, chicken or meatballs. (optional)

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large pan over medium low heat add the onions and cook for about 5 minutes, then add the garlic and continue cooking another 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the Tomato Sauce, Diced Tomatos, Tomato Paste and Marsala Wine and bring to a simmer while whisking to combine and disperse the tomato paste.
  3. Add salt, black pepper, sugar, oregano, basil, thyme and red pepper flakes and stir until combined.
  4. If adding browned ground beef, sausage, browned chicken pieces or Italian Meatballs do so now. Remember to verify the internal cooking temperature of chicken pieces reach a minimum of 165ºF or for meatballs a minimum of 150ºF.
  5. Simmer for 45 minutes stirring occasionally.
