Italian Meatballs

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb. 80/20 ground beef
  • ½ lb. ground pork
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ cup finely chopped bell pepper
  • ¾ cup fresh parmesan cheese – grated
  • ⅓ cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 1 Tbsp. Parsley
  • Olive oil

 

DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine all ingredients except olive oil in a bowl without overworking
  2. Form 2-inch meatballs
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Place meatballs in the pan and brown them on all sides gently turning them
  5. Place in pot or Dutch oven with tomato sauce and simmer at LOW HEAT for at least 30 minutes, gently stir occasionally to cook evenly and avoid scorching the sauce.
  • Alternate Cooking: place meatballs on a baking sheet or pan and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes
